FAQ
-
What is the Super4's program?Super 4's was born out of the vision to create a better format for young players to actively develop and showcase their skills in a competitive setting. Designed for boys and girls aged 5-9, this structured, small-sided competition emphasizes improving the core abilities essential for excelling in soccer. Unlike traditional 7-a-side football, the Super 4’s format guarantees more touches on the ball, increased opportunities for attacking and defending in 1v1 situations, and a greater number of goalscoring moments. By simplifying the game and focusing on development, the format eliminates the complexities of larger games, providing a more engaging and skill-enhancing experience. Participating in this pre and offseason program not only helps young players refine their abilities but also ensures they can carry these learnings into their regular outdoor games, setting them up for continued growth and success.
-
Do the players win trophies?Yes. The winning team in each league lifts the Super 4 Cup with winners and runner up medals awarded.
-
why 4v4?Young players get to touch the ball hundreds more times than in a traditional 7v7 game. More game involvement / quicker paced / more times practising core skills.
-
Why can't players enter the box?The penalty box encourages spatial awareness. There are also more moments of striking the ball and goal scoring without a GK.
-
Throw ins and corners? There are no throw in as the ball is always in play. (Net either side) Corner kicks as usual with a dribble or pass to re start. 3 second rule. A goal kick is awarded if the ball enters or stops in the square. Players on the opposition team will retreat back into own half to allow the team to play out from the back.

Subs?Yes, you can have up to 4 subs and are interchange. Subs can be made at any time when the ball goes out of play.
-
Why does the opposition have to be in their own half on goal kicks? This is to allow players to confidently build up from the back without being in high pressure situations. This rule removes the typical boot it long approach as players have time to dribble into space or pass to a team mate.
-
What facilities do we use?Super 4's can be played on an indoor surface or synthetic / artificial.
-
How do we contact you?You can reach us at admin@super4.com.au and we'll get back to you at the earliest.
-
What's the +1 rule?+1 Rule: If a team falls behind by 5 goals, they may add an additional player at any point in the game to create a 5v4 (whether in the first or second half) until the score is tied. If the team can bring the score back to a draw, the game will return to the 4v4 format. We believe this adjustment will provide both a rewarding challenge for the leading team and renewed momentum for the team behind.
-
Why 4v4 is better than 7v7 for young players learning the game1. Frequent Attacking and Defending In a 4v4 game format, players are constantly engaged in both attacking and defending, which provides repetition and builds confidence with quick, decisive actions in and out of possession . 2. Enhanced Decision-Making Skills The fast-paced nature of 4v4 keeps players actively involved, sharpening their decision-making abilities through repeated, real-time game situations. 3. Reduced Complexity and Emphasis on Pure Play With fewer players, 4v4 reduces the complexity of the game, allowing players to focus on their individual skills, enjoy more touches, and experience the joy of play in a way that mirrors street football.
-
What happens if I can't field a team? The minimum number of players for a game to go ahead is 3. If a team can't field a team then the opponents will receive a 3-0 win.
-
Weather Policy? In line, with FV guidelines, games will go ahead under 32 degrees with a break in play every 5 minutes if higher temperatures. Games will go ahead in rain and should we cancel for torrential rain, both teams will be awarded 1 point.
-
Can I add players during the season?Yes, although requests must be in the correct age groups which must be emailed prior to the game. A maximum squad size of 8 on the day per team.
-
Who coaches? We encourage a parent coach to manage the team with little "Coaching" required. The 4v4 game format gives players the freedom of pure play akin to street football. Parent coaches role are to organise the team ideally into a diamond diamond formation and to reinforce the rules of play. - Not going into the box, and dropping into own half on opponents goal kicks, to allow young players the opportunity to play out from the back.
-
